Create some height and interest in your garden

Sometimes when you look out at your garden, it can seem a little flat and lacking in something.  That 'something' is often structure, which can be difficult to achieve throughout the seasons, especially in the newer gardens.

So how about adding these gorgeous obelisks, arches and trellis to your garden?  Handmade in the UK by a wirework designer-manufacturer, they create height and interest all year round, with the added bonus that they are beautiful with or without flowers

metal garden arch

Use archways to create a link between two different areas of your garden or to frame a view through your garden.  Anchor into the garden by planting bushy lavender around the base

Try positioning three of these obelisks along a straight herbaceous bed to take the eye down the garden.  Allow annual climbers such a sweetpeas to scramble over during the summer months, then remove during the winter to show the delicate design of the obelisk

ornate wire trellis

Great to hide a less-than-pretty wall.  Again try planting up with annual climbers throughout the summer, and leave bare during the winter to show-off the ornate wirework

Spring has sprung

The sun is out, the sky is blue and the magnolia tree in the field next to my house is coming into flower.  This is my favourite time of the year with all the possibilities of a gorgeous summer ahead of us.

Mother's Day Garden Gift Ideas

Whilst I don't necessarily agree with the commercial concept of Mother's Day, I do agree that we  sometimes need a reminder to spoil our mothers and to let them know that we appreciate their love and support.  I, for one, could not manage without my mum's help especially in the dog-sitting dept although the rest of the family have pointed out that the 'hairy' grandchildren do tend get preferential treatment.

So, if you're looking for something for a garden-loving mum, we have put together some ideas for you

Wire Cake Stand

Triple Garden Wall Planter

Lacy Tealight Holders

If you order any of the items featured in our Mother's Day Garden Gift section before 4pm on Thursday 15th March, we will guarantee delivery by Saturday 17th March.

Plus we will deliver for FREE to any UK mainland address

If you do one thing this month .... plant some pansies

Last year I planted some winter pansies in February and they flowered their little heads off right the way through to autumn.  This year I will be doing the same again .

Post Holiday Blues

For those of you who didn't already know, I spent the first week of January 2012 in Egypt with my family.  And when I say my family by this I mean 24 close relatives; parents, brothers, sister-in-laws, uncles, aunts, cousins, and not forgetting 7 of my fabulous nephews and nieces.  The  whole week was organised (and paid for) by my parents who wanted to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in style.
Although my inital thoughts were .... 24 family members all thrown together for a week ?.. what could possibly go wrong??!!  In reality, nothing did go wrong and we all had the most amazing week together.

Coming back to cold, damp England was certainly something of a comedown, especially as the first day back at work was 'blue Monday', officially the most depressing day of the year.  Although the new shoots pushing through on the bulbs I planted in Autumn did raise my spirits slightly. Some tips from The Telegraph on how to get back into the real world without too much hassle certainly came in useful.

Roll on Spring!
